Mäkkelä (GER/FIN) - English biog/info sheet

Mäkkelä, Finnish-German songwriter/performer, is for sure one of the extravaganzas of Europe's singer/songwriter scene. Two critically acclaimed full length albums (and numerous contributions) under his belt the charming eccentric is constantly touring the clubs all over Europe with increasing success. A truly unique live act, melting edgy lofi-folk anthems, his punkrock roots and incredibly emotional songs into a stunning folk noir brew. Best to be heard on his upcoming brand new album "Last Of A Dying Breed" (2015, 9pm Records).
From his debut album hailed by TimeOut (London) as “…warped blues, electronics and country-tinged soundscapes…”  back in 2003, across collaborations with people as diverse as Matt Everett (Bonnie Prince Billie's viola player), Desert Planet (8-Bit pop/visual artists from Finland), Marko Haavisto (FIN), touring the UK & Germany with Janne Westerlund (of Circle fame) and Canadian Klezmer-Punk outlaw Geoff Berner, he is currently down to a mostly acoustic live set. Guitar, Irish Bouzouki and Omnichord. A performance significantly different to what you might expect from the average singer/songwriter. One of the few solo performers who are capable of combining exceptionally intense songs with a live performance that reminds at times of the folk punk energy of a late Joe Strummer. Recent reviews compared him to the likes of Billy Bragg, Gavin Friday and TV Smith.
